Hoef van Eden
Netherlands / 2023 / permanent artwork in public space
Commissioned by Alkmaar Duurzaam Vastgoed
Hoef van Eden, a reference to the Garden of Eden, is a permanent art work at the Campus De Hoef primary school yard in neighborhood De Hoef in the city of Alkmaar.
The installation consists of a bridge to an island in a wadi, with a gazebo on stilts on it. Four trees surround and complete the artwork: one tree for each season. The basic material of the bridge and gazebo is hardwood, at the same time the beams of both structures are covered with 33,000 mainly second-hand Lego bricks. From a distance the work reminds of an idyllic landscape painting.
The festive inauguration of Hoef van Eden took place on Wednesday November 1, 2023. Before that, on October 6, we had one day with children helping Team Lego in the building of the beams of Lego.
