Barbershop / Steel wool
South Africa - Netherlands / 2010 / two single screen videos / SD, 4:3 and 16:9, colour, stereo / 1'00”

Having a haircut on the streets of Alexandra, a township of Johannesburg, can be an adventurous thing.

I edited two versions of the footage: Barbershop and Steel wool. In Barbershop I interview the barber and he recommends the commerce (which is actually not his own), in Steel wool I am a 'fly on the wall' and show the interaction between the men.

The videos were realized in collaboration with fellow artist Senzo Shabangu during our artist-in-residency at the Bag Factory Artist's Studios in Johannesburg in 2010.
